3.8 SFI TURBO

The early stages of engine development was first to fabricate turbo headers to fit a front wheel drive car.
The pictures below are with the headers and turbo on the car. It still used the stock front wheel drive intake. As you can see, the turbo was in the way of the throttle body inlet so I made a custom intake that used a Grand National bolt-on upper plenum.

This is the custom fabricated intake that used a stock upper plenum from a Buick Grand National. This allowed the throttle body to have a lot more clearance!
For engine management, I swapped the stock Ciera computer for a Grand National unit. I also switched over the Grand Nationals fuel injectors and mass airflow sensor. This is all that's needed to allow the engine to start and run! Pretty simple.

This car even had full instrumentation also!

So now, if you've actually read down this far I know you're wondering if this thing will run. Well, you don't think I'd post up a bunch of pictures and NOT actually have a couple of video's did you? Note that the engine was cold when I shot these so it had a little hesitation when the throttle was mashed.

| This project was intended to be an engine fabrication test mule that was later going to be transplanted into a 86 Pontiac Fiero GT. Unfortunately, I got this far and cancelled the projects. I later removed all the turbo related fabricated components off this Ciera and sold the car as scrap. Too bad because it was a REALLY nice wagon...I just didn't have a title for it. |
